the Bible makes a comeback

i found a great article in education week magazine this morning. it talks about how educators have shied away from teaching the Bible because of court decisions, but are now trying to find ways to incorporate it in the classroom again. it's an interesting read. enjoy. :o)

bittersweet memories

today was officially the last day of my internship. the kids were very nearly out of control, but i was past the point of fussin' at them. some of them were completely excited for summer. others dreaded the idea of being at home for the next couple months. i felt sorry for some of those children because of the tough things they will deal with in their broken, sad homes. it makes me wish i could just keep them with me. i sometimes wonder if year-round school might be a better alternative. i have some students who would blow their parents out of the water on the TCAP test. some of the parents really don't care; or if they do, they have a funny way of showing it. my heart goes out to those kids. i want so badly for all of my students to be successful...i just hope that they find the right people in their futures to help them become all i know they have the potential to be. i sure will miss them.

save the drama for your mama

i'm really tired of all that cattiness and drama going on at school these days. and the saddest part is, it's not just the kids. we're all tired and we all have a death grip on our last nerve, but come on. i just hope we can leave well enough alone and end the year on a good note. *sigh*

carpe diem

john 10.10 says: "the thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." there is something to be said for living a full life. there are so many things i hope to see and do in my lifetime...and i see no reason why i can't accomplish them. there is always something to look forward to. make the most of this moment. carpe diem.

little old lady from pasadena...

...well, actually, she was from indianapolis. she engaged me in conversation this evening while i was hanging clothes and she was waiting on her husband as he was trying on pants. she asked me all about myself and why i was here and what i was doing with my life. she seemed genuinely interested. we soon made a connection in that we are both from the flatlands known as indiana. it was so enjoyable talking to her that the rest of the evening didn't seem so bad. it was refreshing.

happy momma's day

for the last week and a half, my students have been working fervently on projects, crafts, and poetry to give to their mom's at our "Mother's Day Tea" last thursday. some of them did the very minimum as far as effort goes, which is to be expected. some others went above and beyond and did some beautiful work. all in all, the moms loved the special day. at one point or another throughout the morning, mothers were tearing up. it made me miss my mom like crazy. here's a little video of the kids singing the backstreet boys' song "the perfect fan" to their moms. enjoy.

now taking applications

after yet another cruddy night at work, i am now taking applications to fill the position of Sugar Daddy. i'm very tired of working hard and getting taken advantage of. i'd much rather stay home and be a housewife while my Sugar Daddy brings home the bacon. there are a few stipulations and expectations. inquire within.

i just read the last article of a four-part series entitled "The Critical Years" published by The New York Times. Fantastic! It discusses the middle school years and what schools (especially Briarcliff Middle School in Briarcliff Manor, NY) are doing to meet the needs of students in this turbulent adolescent stage of life. you all should check it out...especially you middle school folks! here's the link:

my mind is as full as a pretty girl's dance card...

there is so much going on this time of year, it's unbelievable. there are many loose ends to tie up; so many things that have to be done, along with many more fun "things to do before leaving knoxville."

*my mentor is having surgery next week.
*i don't have a job yet.
*some people are leaving my life.
*others are becoming more a part of it than i ever imagined they would.
*i'm moving in with my parents...again. and i no longer have a bedroom.
*friends are getting married.
*other friends are having babies.
*a friend just lost her baby.
*the weather is warming up, making being productive difficult.
*i'm responsible for all the "end-of-the-year" paperwork, inventory, etc. and i have no idea what i'm doing.
*everything is changing.

...life is happening...don't miss it.
